Masterworked items grant an additional +2 to every armor stat in addition to having ten energy to work with. When a piece of armor is upgraded to its maximum of ten, it will become Masterworked. An armor piece cannot exceed ten energy, and unlocking the final three energy points on your armor will cost Enhancement Prisms and Ascendant Shards.

Every time you upgrade an armor piece, it will gain an additional energy point that can be used to slot additional mods into that piece. Upgrading armor is core to getting the most out of it. Any Masterworked armor you reforge will cost an Upgrade Module and some Glimmer. Reforging an element while retaining your armor's rank will require all previous upgrade materials unless it's Masterworked. Should you obtain an armor piece with an elemental affinity you are not happy with, you can change the item's affinity at any time by hovering over the item's elemental affinity icon and reforging it to a different element.

This update also includes the addition of Masterwork Armor, which provides players with a three-percent defensive boost during a super (for a total of 15 percent with five pieces of masterwork armor equipped) and can be re-rolled to have a different stat package for one Masterwork core and 10 legendary shards. As is the norm in Season 2, players will be able to directly purchase gear and three different weapons from Saladin instead of having to hope it will drop from an engram. The event be the first time players can earn ornaments for the Iron Banner gear by completing specific challenges in the mode. The Iron Banner event this time around is Control, in which teams hold down capture points to earn more points per kill.
